Land Acknowledgement for Cat Lake Friends of Animush
As a volunteer team of Veterinarians, Registered Veterinary Technicians, and support staff with Cat Lake Friends of Animush, we gratefully acknowledge that our work takes place on the traditional ancestral homelands of the Anishinaabe and Oji-Cree nations across Northern Ontario.
Our mobile spay, neuter, and wellness clinics operate within the territories of Treaty 9, specifically serving the remote, fly-in communities of Cat Lake First Nation (Bizhiw-zaaga'igan) and Weagamow First Nation (North Caribou Lake). We honor the First Nations who have held an unceded spiritual connection and responsibility to care for these lands, waters, and animals since time immemorial.
Our organization carries the word Animush (dog / animal) with deep respect for the Oji-Cree language and the sacred place animals hold in northern families and communities. We are profoundly humbled to be welcomed into your homes. We extend our warmest thanks to the Chiefs, Councils, local coordinators, and community members for granting us the immense privilege to work by your side. We remain dedicated to a shared path of reconciliation—promoting veterinary medicine, safeguarding public health, and celebrating the powerful bond between people and their pets to help build healthier, more resilient communities.
